Every word is spoken with purpose – sometimes he sounds gritty, other times he sounds smooth – but there's always a charm to his delivery. While some of Oddisee's lyrics might take a while to sink in, his delivery will make each line he spits a joy to listen to. " Wanna be a better spender but I like the idea of not caring what the cost is" he says, rattling off relatable thoughts about religion, cooking, saving the planet and talking to friends. 'Contradiction's Maze' is a perfect illustration of privileged indecision. " Glorifying music that's abusive and a threat to us / And if you got a message in your records, you collecting dust upon the shelf," he raps in 'Want Something Done'. It's a clever trick, but will anyone notice? Oddisee admits they might not. He doesn't exactly push boundaries – there's no Yeezus anarchy, no To Pimp a Butterfly theatrics – but Oddisee provides music that will immediately make you feel comfortable, while spitting thought-provoking lyrics about deep concepts over the top.

Oddisee is largely on his own here, besides a couple of spots from excellent soul vocalist Maimouna Youssef and Nick Hakim, plus a bluesy bridge from modern blues superstar Gary Clark Jr. That's not so odd for modern hip hop, which currently seems more in touch with soul, jazz and funk than ever. The Good Fight is packed full of beautiful warm organic instrumentation. It's immediately appealing in a musical sense, but benefits from plenty of close listening if you want to get the most out of his insightful lyrics. Thanks to a couple of underground hits, The Good Fight comes with the most fanfare of anything he's done yet and Oddisee has risen to the occasion. Oddisee provides music that will make you feel comfortable, while spitting thought-provoking lyrics about deep concepts.
